Sketchbook.....Don Lencho

....a small sketch from many years ago.

Don Lencho was a farmworker living in Soledad, California. A good man, Don Lencho was part of the farmworking crew that I, my brother, Chito and cousin, Chirico worked with. When working the fields in Salinas Valley it was a ten-hour day. Both young and old worked together...side by side. There was no age discrimination in farm working.

A kind and gentle man, Don Lencho worked and suffered, barely scraping a living working as a farmworker. His posture was proof of the inhumane treatment by the powers that be.... the farmer, the growers, the contractor and the state. I have never forgotten Don Lencho.
